Q. What is the Shepard Garden and Arts Center (SG&AC)?

A. The Shepard Garden and Art Center, located at 3330 McKinley Boulevard in McKinley Park, is the home for more than 50 clubs with a focus on gardening or art. Clubs ranging from the African Violet Society to the Textile Arts Association. Clubs meet weekly or monthly for educational and demonstration sessions and many sponsor shows annually. All activities at the center are open to the public. New garden and art based clubs are welcomed to join. Q. What is a Member Club?

A. A Member Club is a group that pays an annual fee to belong to the Shepard Garden and Arts Center.


Q. What types of clubs can become a member of the SG&AC?

A. Membership is open to any amateur club whose focus is related to gardening, horticulture, flower arranging, conservation, antiques, or arts such as painting, ceramics, woodcarving, metal work, or other types of arts and crafts.


Q. How does my club become a member?

A. Any club having an interest in becoming a member of the Shepard Garden and Arts Center can submit an application for review. A copy of club bylaws, approximate number of members, and a general description of the club's goals will need to accompany the application.


Q. What are the benefits to my club for joining?

A. As a Member Club, your organization has priority over outside rentals in use of the facility on an on-going basis. General liability insurance is provided for all meetings and club sponsored events held at the Center, and use of the Center for shows and sales at a greatly reduced rate. Included in membership is free publicity for any club event through the Center's news letter and club listings on the Center's website.


Q. What does it cost for a club to be a member of SG&AC?

A. There are two levels of membership available; "Sustaining Members" pay an annual fee of $125 dollars and are required to hold a minimum of three meetings at the Center per year. "Associate" membership costs $75.00 with a requirement of only one meeting per year.


Q. Are there any other costs associated with becoming a Member Club?

A. Each "Sustaining Member" club is required to purchase tables at the Center-sponsored Spring and Fall Sales. The cost of the table is set by the Board of Directors and is currently $125 per sale. The clubs may use the tables as they wish to sell items and the proceeds from the sales benefits the club or its individual members, as the club chooses.

Q. Who can use the Center?

A. The Center is available to its member clubs who have priority in reserving meeting dates. The facility (with an outdoor patio garden) is can also be rented for meetings and private gatherings.
